Care Packages

The purpose of A {Giving} State Of Mind is to share a little love and colour with children that need some nurturing.  My family and I put together care packages and provide them to TRACC Logan (who provides Foster Care to children in my local area). TRACC Logan pass the packages on to children when they first enter foster care. The packages are items just for them, which they can keep with them no matter where they live.
We welcome with open arms any assistance you can provide! This is an ongoing project so you can help out at any time. I have added some info about what makes up our package at the end of this post. On the side of my blog I have added links to some crafty tutorials that would be lovely items to include in the packages (this is just some of the thousands of free tutorials available on the internet).
Some "givers" send in a hand crafted item, others will donate a full package, while other "givers" donate one or many of the same items. For this reason I will provide a monthly update at the beginning of each month to let you know what we have plenty of and what items are still in need.

a {giving} state of mind

that is what I am calling this new chapter my family and I are stepping into, a {giving} state of mind.  I have long wanted to do some sort of volunteer work, to help out, to share some love, to add a little more happiness to the world...all in my own small way.

I also wanted my girls to know that although we may not have what some of their friends have like the overseas holidays or a pool in our backyard, that we have SO much more than some others and for that we have to be extremely grateful.  Extremely grateful, but also have the grace to give, the grace to share and the grace to love and if we do that anonymously, just send all of that love into the universe without the need for thank yous, then that's perfect in my book.

Don't get me wrong, I am very proud that my husband and I have worked hard and made sacrifices in order to provide what we have and do for our girls, and they are great kids! But they are kids and so I need them to be aware of all that they have, not only be seeing all that they don't have.  And like all kids I see their eyes glaze over when I start telling them "how lucky they are" and "you don't know what NOTHING is", so my wanting to volunteer as a family is not to tell them all of this but to show them.   And to show them that we are only doing a small thing for a few people but if we all just did a small thing imagine, just imagine!

More information on the care packages I mentioned in the last post will be available very very soon ...

Hugs

Calling all scrapbooking peeps

I have recently volunteered with TRACC Logan who provide care for children through Foster Care in my local area of Logan.

My family and I will be putting together care packages and providing them to TRACC Logan who will pass them on to children when they first enter foster care.  It will be a bag of items just for them that they can keep with them no matter where they live.  I will be providing more information on what and how these bags will be coming together for those of you that would like to assist.  I know that since I have shared this idea with some of you that there has been a great response with lots of you keen to asssit, so please bear with me while I finalise the details.

In the meantime I am calling out to all of my scrapbooking peeps.  I have also volunteered to help TRACC Logan put together scrapbooks for their foster children.  The foster carers will be meeting in the coming months to put these books together and to keep the costs minimal for TRACC Logan I would really appreciate donations of any scrapbooking products that you no longer need.  It could be a new packet of embellishments or a partly used sticker sheet.

If you are able to contribute please contact me at ashestateofmind@bigpond.com for my postal address or if you are local and would like to save some postage I am happy to pickup items from you or have them dropped to my home.

Many thanks for your giving spirit.

Hugs
